Student Writing Center

Writing Tutoring

Writing tutoring is available at the Student Writing Center FREE of charge to all Ohio University students. You can make an appointment for a face to face or virtual meeting by visiting the SWC in Alden Library on the second floor. Click here to schedule an appointment.

The Student Writing Center is a free service for all Ohio University students. We offer tutoring for any student on any paper in any subject area. We’ll work with you to develop your ideas, organize your paper effectively, and help you meet specific assignment criteria.

Face-to-Face Sessions

  • Sunday: 4 pm – 10 pm
  • Monday – Thursday: 12 pm -10 pm
  • Friday: 12 pm – 4 pm

Schedule face-to-face sessions here. Please be advised, you should use your oak email when scheduling. It is the means by which we can verify you are a student at Ohio University. You may be denied a session if you do not use your oak email.

* Walk-in Sessions for Winter 2010

  • Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday: 4pm-6pm
  • Tuesday: 4pm-10pm
  • Thursday: 10am-1pm and 4pm-10pm
  • There will be no 4-5pm walk-ins on Feb. 18th, 23rd, and 25th.

Virtual Tutoring Sessions

Meet in a chatroom-type atmosphere and talk with a tutor in real time. You must submit a request 24 hours before you want to meet with a tutor. If you are interested in booking a session, contact Megan Titus at mt323005@ohio.edu directly.  Since we currently have only one tutor offering online sessions, availability is limited. Be aware that online sessions often take longer than face to face sessions and we may not be able to get through more than 4-6 pages.

Severe Weather Policy

During severe weather, please watch the “Announcements” page of the schedule and check your email to ensure that the Student Writing Center is open.

If the University closes, the Student Writing Center will be closed as well and your session will be canceled, even if you do not receive a cancellation email. Once the University reopens, we will work with you to try to reschedule your session.

If Athens County is under a Level 2 or Level 3 Snow Emergency, some tutors may not be able to come to campus for tutoring. If your tutor cannot keep the appointment, s/he will email you to reschedule your session.

If you are unable to make your appointment because of severe weather, please log in to the schedule and cancel your appointment as soon as possible. If you do not have Internet access, you may also call 740-593-2646 to cancel your appointment. If you do not cancel your appointment it will be marked as a “no show.”
