Mission Statement
The mission of the Ohio University Center for Writing Excellence is to create and support a comprehensive writing-across-the-curriculum initiative and strengthen engagement with writing on all levels and in all disciplines. As writing is the foundational tool professionals use to conduct inquiry and to both create and share knowledge in the academy and in the workplace, the CWE works from the premise that writing well is the hallmark of the educated citizen. We are committed to affirming the central place of writing in the learning process. Our goal is to provide faculty development and institutional services that support a writing-centered curriculum through writing to learn, rhetorical analysis, critical thinking, and revision in general and disciplinary contexts. We offer faculty workshops and individual consultations in teaching development that enable faculty to re-imagine the way they include writing in their courses. We offer students writing support through our writing tutoring program. Through all of our work we strive to develop writing objectives that elicit critical and creative thinking and articulate university-wide standards for student performance.
