Meet and talk with other teaching assistants and with OU faculty about questions and concerns related to teaching, professional development and future careers, balancing the scholarly and personal aspects of your life as a graduate teaching assistant, and more.   You choose the topics!

A four-part workshop series for graduate students on the professional teaching portfolio and the critical role it can play in securing a faculty position and achieving success in the professoriate.

“Mentoring Minutes” is intended to be fun, informative, and will help to extend the mentoring network of new/recently hired faculty at Ohio University.  During this “speed mentoring” event, pairs of new and experienced faculty will meet together in short intervals, switching conversation pairs every few minutes.  Mentors can answer questions asked by new faculty, and offer advice on subjects ranging from teaching and learning strategies, research and scholarly activities, faculty responsibilities, campus resources, and other topics.  This is a great way to meet and make contacts with senior colleagues, as well as to meet other new/recently hired faculty.

A three-part workshop series for faculty on the teaching portfolio, including philosophy of teaching statements, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and strategies to organize these teaching materials in a cohesive portfolio.  As part of the series, participants will create or fine-tune their own philosophy of teaching statements, identify materials to include in their portfolios, and provide peer feedback on portfolio materials for one another.  Regional campus colleagues: Please contact one week in advance if you would like to participate via videoconference.

The Kanawha Environmental Education Project has offered environmental and sustainability literacy workshops for faculty on the Athens and regional campuses since 2007. Come learn about the work of the project, its application across disciplines, course revision, learning outcomes and resources available for faculty.

This seminar is geared for faculty and instructors who are developing new courses or re-designing existing courses to incorporate student learning objectives and outcomes.  The workshop also provides an opportunity to work toward transitioning a course from a quarter to a semester system.

Join graduate student colleagues from across the disciplines in this scholarly learning community for future faculty!  This collaborative learning community will introduce you to the skills and knowledge needed to enter the nation’s professoriate and succeed as a member of the faculty of the future.  Participants will create an individualized collection of materials and methods to confidently start the faculty application process, including a professional teaching portfolio and a personal future faculty career plan.
